Joss Bay, Broadstairs Guide
Set beneath dramatic chalk cliffs on the Isle of Thanet, Joss Bay is one of the most popular and energetic beaches near Broadstairs. Known as the area’s top surfing beach, it offers a wide sandy shoreline, open sea views, and a relaxed, outdoorsy atmosphere that attracts families, surfers, and walkers alike.
Quieter than Viking Bay but more active than neighbouring coves, Joss Bay is ideal for visitors looking to combine beach time with water sports, coastal walks, and easy access to facilities.
About Joss Bay
Joss Bay
Joss Bay is a broad, open sandy beach backed by white chalk cliffs, giving it a wilder feel than some of Broadstairs’ more sheltered bays. The beach is exposed to the open sea, creating ideal conditions for surfing and bodyboarding, particularly when there is a good swell.
At low tide, the sands stretch out across the bay, providing plenty of space for beach games and walking. At high tide, the sea reaches close to the cliffs, making it a popular spot for swimming and water sports in suitable conditions.
RNLI lifeguards patrol the beach during the main summer season, and water quality regularly meets high standards, making it a safe and well-managed place to visit.
