Scotney Castle Guide

Welcome to our guide for Scotney Castle

Tucked into the wooded Weald near Tunbridge Wells, Scotney Castle is one of the National Trust’s most romantic and picturesque estates.

Blending a 14-century moated ruin, a Victorian mansion and 780 acres of parkland, it captures the charm of English country life through every season.

First built in the 1300s, the old castle now sits in a tranquil moat surrounded by gardens inspired by the Picturesque movement. In the 19th century, Edward Hussey III added the elegant new house overlooking the valley, combining Victorian refinement with a warm family feel.

Today, visitors can explore six centuries of history, art, and landscape design in one unforgettable Kentish setting.
