Dymchurch Beach Guide
The steps down to the beach at high tide
With its long stretch of golden sand, wide promenade, and classic seaside atmosphere, Dymchurch Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Kent. Located on the Romney Marsh coast between Folkestone and New Romney, it offers plenty of space, easy access, and calm waters that make it especially popular during the summer months.
Backed by sea defences and open landscapes, Dymchurch Beach feels spacious and relaxed, making it ideal for traditional seaside days out, dog walking in the off-season, and coastal strolls along the promenade.
About Dymchurch Beach
Dymchurch Beach is a wide sandy beach that stretches for miles along the south Kent coast. Unlike many of Kent’s shingle beaches, the sand here is firm and expansive, especially at low tide, providing excellent conditions for walking, paddling, and beach games.
The beach shelves gently into the sea, making it popular with families and younger swimmers. During the main summer season, RNLI lifeguards patrol designated areas, offering reassurance for visitors entering the water.
Thanks to its long promenade and easy access points, Dymchurch Beach is also well suited to pushchairs, wheelchairs, and visitors who prefer flat, step-free routes along the seafront.

Swimming and Paddling
The gently shelving shoreline makes paddling and swimming popular in calm conditions, particularly during the summer when lifeguards are present.
Walk or Cycle the Promenade
The long, flat promenade runs alongside the beach and is perfect for walking, cycling, and mobility scooters, with uninterrupted sea views.
