Dreamland Margate

The Iconic Seaside Amusement Park and Music Venue on Kent’s Coast

Dreamland Margate is one of the UK’s most beloved seaside attractions — a place where vintage fairground charm meets contemporary cool. Situated just steps from Margate Main Sands, this historic amusement park has been entertaining visitors for over 150 years with its mix of rides, live music, roller disco, arcade games, and street food.

Once known as “The Hall by the Sea,” Dreamland is now a symbol of Margate’s cultural revival — combining nostalgic seaside fun with cutting-edge creativity, seasonal festivals, and a year-round line-up of live events.

The History of Dreamland

The site that became Dreamland dates back to the 1870s, during the golden age of the British railway boom, when day-trippers began flocking to Margate’s sandy beaches. Originally operated by circus impresario “Lord” George Sanger, it was re-named Dreamland in 1920, quickly becoming one of Britain’s premier amusement parks.

At its height, Dreamland was famous for its wooden Scenic Railway roller coaster, its fairground rides, and its lively seaside atmosphere. Though it fell into decline during the late 20th century, the park has since undergone extensive restoration, reclaiming its place as the beating heart of modern Margate.

Today, Dreamland stands as both a heritage landmark and a 21st-century entertainment venue, combining the best of its vintage roots with an exciting, modern energy.
